What is My Coverage Plan?
My Coverage Plan (MCP), Inc., is a new, innovative technology—still under development—that will use a relational database with a learning interface linked to an accumulated data source to identify appropriate health coverage options for each patient and generate an electronic document of current and future public and private healthcare coverage options. Unlike most benefits checking systems, MCP creates a comprehensive view of benefits available to an individual from all benefit avenues available to him.
Development of MCP is funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health's Small Business Innovation Research Program.
What will MCP do for health care providers?
My Coverage Plan will offer superior revenue recovery for patients not covered or poorly covered by traditional private insurance plans by evaluating coverage from a multi-payor vantage.
MCP will enable health care providers to initiate benefits eligibility probability for their uninsured patients, providing a real-time basis for informed billing and service delivery decisions and a provider-driven mechanism for reducing uncompensated care expenses. In addition, each of the existing benefits screening applications requires site-specific installation. In contrast, MCP will be a true Software as Service application, offering point-of-service resource delivery, thereby:
- Providing immediate, consistent benefits eligibility information to health care providers and consumers
- Reducing health care providers’ staff time expenses and overhead by eliminating the need for site-specific application instances and associated maintenance and updates
- Reducing the incidence of non-payment and underpayment for services, thereby increasing health care provider reimbursement rates and contributing to stabilization of rising health care service costs
What will MCP do for patients?
By identifying, aligning, and forecasting appropriate coverage, My Coverage Plan will help reduce the avoidable health disparities exasperated by a lack of appropriate health coverage.
In addition, MCP will:
- Proactively facilitate achievement of outcomes through communication with patient/family and health care team to coordinate care
- Develop, maintain, and monitor family plans to achieve individualized outcomes
- Work with project evaluator to assess outcomes to continuously update the plan
- Advocate for patient/family within the health care system and community
- Support and empower the family to become active in their health care decision-making
- Provide ongoing support to patient/family as needed
- Follow necessary documentation for billing public and private funding sources
- Use client database for assessment, case planning, and evaluation
- Maximize a patient/family’s available resources (both financial and emotional)
- Ensure care is provided in a quality, cost-effective context
